How to make Vanilla Ice Cream using Vanilla Extract

Making Vanilla Extract :

Making your own vanilla extract is simple and inexpensive.

All you need is high-quality grade B (or better) vanilla beans, vodka or rum, a jar with a lid, and patience.

Start by splitting the beans lengthwise using a sharp knife to expose the small seeds inside.

Place two to four split beans in a jar with one cup of alcohol. Close the jar tightly and let it sit for 8-10 weeks, shaking it every few days.

Make sure that the beans remain submerged in the liquid. After 10 weeks, strain out the beans and discard them.

The vanilla extract should last up to two years stored away from heat or light.

Making Vanilla Ice Cream :

Vanilla ice cream is easy to make with just a few basic ingredients:

Start by heating up 2 cups of heavy cream, 1 cup of whole milk and ¾ cup sugar on medium-low heat until the sugar has dissolved.

Beat 6 egg yolks together in a separate bowl before slowly adding the hot cream mixture to them. Return the combined mixture back into the pot and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, stirring until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.

Let cool before pouring into an ice cream maker and churning according to manufacturer’s instructions. Once ready, transfer to a container and freeze for at least 6 hours.

Enjoy!
